DruIDe (printable identification – germ. Druckbare IDentifikation) was initiated by the ID4us Gmbh, in order to develope and demonstrate a world wide new RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) technology.
A novel reader architecture reads the printed chipless RFID tags based on nano technology allowing a price per tag of less than 1 cent. This opens new opportunities in areas where high technological hurdles or high cost pressure prevented an RFID solution so far. The University Duisburg-Essen partners of DruIDe recently launched new spin-off company, airCode, which will continue to drive the development of the tags, while ID4us will market the corresponding reading devices. The central vision of the six DruIDe parnters (ID4us, unyt, PVL, Meyer Burger, University Twente and University Duisburg-Essen) is the replacement of the barcode by chipless tags.
