For the inhabitants of the Euregio it should be a matter of course to look for and find a job in the neighbouring country. In order to realise this goal, the project “Lernen ohne Grenzen“ (Learning without Borders) wants to organise vocational education in the border region on a cross-border basis and adapt it to the needs of the Euregional labour market. In this way it meets the wishes and needs of the economy and the local authorities (D/NL). It provides stable and sustainable cooperation networks – meanwhile more than 50 German Berufskollegs and all Dutch ROC’s in the border region are involved in the project – which will remain in a sustainable condition even after the end of the project phase, so that cross-border vocational education in the Euregio will become a matter of course.
So far, more than 16,255 mobilities (student exchanges, teacher exchanges), 10 vocational competitions and 57 tandems have been carried outwithin the project. Tandems are projects that are carried out jointly by German and Dutch pupils, such as the joint design of a roundabout in the municipality of Laer, a joint photo exhibition, joint visits to trade fairs, and much more. In this practical way, the pupils get to know the language, professional culture and education system of the neighbouring country. In this way, they considerably broaden their opportunities and perspectives for their later career choice, which will also benefit the cross-border labour market.
