Wärme in der EUREGIO: fokussieren & modernisieren

The Münster University of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschule Münster) and six other project partners spent four years researching and working on the German-Dutch project “Wärme in der EUREGIO – fokussieren & modernisieren” (WiEfm). In addition to Münster University of Applied Sciences, the business development agencies of the districts of Borken, Coesfeld and Steinfurt, the waste management company of the district of Warendorf and the Dutch Saxion University of Applied Sciences from Enschede and Kiemt as the Dutch network organisation in the field of energy system transformation and circular economy were involved in the project.
The aim was to investigate and accelerate the heat transition in the German-Dutch EUREGIO.
During the course of the project, the basic principles of heat supply and the heat market in the project area were investigated and potential savings and efficiency technologies were identified. In 32 feasibility studies concrete initiatives on the German and Dutch side were investigated. Eight of these have already been implemented in practice by the end of the project and are examples of the best possible use of climate-friendly heat. Further implementations are in the concrete planning phase.
Further project results are:
– Identification of 200 heat hotspots and presentation in an interactive map
– 120 participants in six interactive future workshops
– Study of 20 Dutch and 12 German heating networks
– 250 participants in four expert workshops
– Identification and publication of success factors and obstacles for the initiation of collective heat supply as well as the presentation of the planning status and the extent to which heat networks are being worked on in the region.
