Bio-TecH2 is the answer to the challenges of sustainable energy supply in the EUREGIO. Biogenic hydrogen production currently describes the most ecological and sustainable way of producing hydrogen. Bio-TecH2 uses only renewable biomasses for hydrogen production and can be operated using residual heat (37-55 °C). Industrial processes for hydrogen production, such as high-temperature electrolysis or steam reforming, on the other hand, are very energy-intensive, at temperatures up to 1,700 °C and pressures up to 300 bar, and use almost exclusively fossil fuels. The Bio TecH2 process offers the opportunity to add a regenerative and sustainable production path to the hydrogen economy in the future. The process provides flexibility, diversity and enables the networking of the sectors of the energy economy: electricity, heat and mobility. In the context of sector coupling, synergy effects are used and independence from fossil fuels is guaranteed. The possibility of using residual materials allows energy and material cycles to be closed, which is why the technology can be ideally integrated into the concept of the circular economy.
