Common Care

Common Care – hochwertige und wohnortnahe Gesundheitsversorgung grenzüberschreitend in der EDR

Common Care involves the development of a sustainable infrastructure for cross-border healthcare thereby improving accessibility and efficient use of the healthcare capacity in the EDR. This will be achieved by cooperation between healthcare institutions in the Northern Netherlands and in Lower Saxony. The main goal is the development of an euregional healthcare region for elective high quality healthcare by cross-border collaboration regarding innovative prevention, diagnostics and treatment.
Common Care examines how to optimize the healthcare capacity in the Eems Dollard Region, not hindered by national borders but delivered close to home, responding to fluctuations in healthcare supply and demand. For example, a shortage of German rheumatologists and endocrinologists or Dutch pediatricians and MDL specialists can be solved by mobilization across the border of either the healthcare professional or the patient. Treatment and financing routes will be coordinated in close collaboration with the patient, healthcare providers and insurance companies.
Additionally, Common Care starts directly with two euregional healthcare pathways: orthopaedics and radiotherapy, in which patient transfer to the neighbouring country will take place. By starting these two concrete healthcare pathways, a chain reaction will occur; both healthcare professionals as well as patients will spread the possibility of treatment abroad, close to home. Responding to this, the project partners will also encourage other healthcare providers, insurance companies, patient organizations and administrators in the border region to develop additional cross-border healthcare pathways to create an efficient and high-quality EDR healthcare network.
