Healthy Building Network

Healthy Building Network: Business cases for healthy buildings

Nowadays, people’s awareness and interest in health is rising. This concerns also the negative or positive impact on health caused by the built environment. The Healthy Building Network addresses this rising awareness adequately.

Based on a close cooperation of relevant stakeholders in this field, the euregio rhine-meuse north (euregio rmn) has the chance to become an early-mover and innovation leader in the field of healthy building environments.

Consequently, this projects complements current government policy objectives on both sides of the border, such as the support of health improvement, innovations, cross-border collaboration, and circular economy.

Targets to be reached are manifold and concern the following issues:

  • – scientific evaluations (incl. a business case), analysing the impacts of health determinants within buildings on the working productivity of human beings
  • – active knowledge transfer and interaction of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) on both sides of the border regarding the following topics: circular economy, cradle to cradle (C2C), health as well as their economic impacts
  • – diffusion of innovations in the euregio rmn especially for SME, to enable the development and production of healthy and circular materials/systems and services
  • – strong positioning of the euregio rmn as a knowledge region in the field of innovation and circular economy in combination with the health sector
  • – a quicker removal of harmful materials (e.g. asbestos) in existing buildings, thanks to the growing awareness of stakeholders
  • – use of healthy materials and services in buildings within the euregio rmn

To conclude: By applying these measures, the euregio rmn is enabled to create an innovative, durable, cross-border ecosystem in the field of circular economy and healthy buildings. Thus, the region may establish itself as a front-runner innovation region in the field of material systems and services in the field of healthy buildings.
