SMOVE

Intelligentes Instrument zur klinisch validierten Bewegungsbewertung und überwachung im häuslichen Umfeld

In the project SMOVE, a project supported by the INTERREG programme, an intelligent instrument for clinically validated motion assessment, diagnosis, and monitoring of movement from the home is developed. In this project, the word “diagnosis” refers to both qualitative and quantitative movement assessment of the patient.

The project focuses on patient populations with (neuro)motor limitations. In this project we focus on three specific target groups: stroke patients who rehabilitate at home, patients who rehabilitate at home as a result of the placement of a hip or knee prosthesis, and patients with movement limitations due to Parkinson’s disease. We will develop an instrument that enables patients to undergo (part of) their treatment at home. As a result, their movements can be monitored more and better, caregivers will be able to evaluate these movements and fewer clinical treatments will be required. This reduces healthcare costs and also reduces the physical and mental strain of the treatments for these often less mobile patients.

The physical and mental strain of treatments is a particularly urgent problem in the north of the German-Dutch border region due to a relatively ageing population combined with sometimes long distances to specialised care. Travelling these distances is particularly difficult for patients with (neuro)motor limitations. The instrument will be developed in an iterative process. The project consortium consists of Twente Medical Systems international, Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen (UMCG), Roessingh Research and Development, InterMedCon, Statex en Universitätsklinikum der WWU Münster
